Symphony No 8

plus a surprise gift performance

JOY promises to be an extraordinary cultural event - an evening not to be missed. This remarkable concert opens with the Australian premiere of the new version of Peter Sculthorpe’s Memento Mori – a tender and moving love song for our planet. The Canberra Symphony Orchestra will perform the work in partnership with Australia’s most acclaimed didgeridoo artist, William Barton. William has triumphed throughout Australia and Europe and performed the world premiere of this work with Nicholas Milton in Germany in a sensational live event broadcast on German National Radio.

Kristian Chong presents his debut in Canberra with what will be a brilliant performance of Beethoven’s joyful and sunny second piano concerto. Winner of the Keyboard section of Symphony Australia’s Young Performers Awards, Kristian has enjoyed impressive success in Europe and throughout Australia.

The evening concludes with the CSO interpreting a romantic virtuoso masterwork by the great Bohemian, Antonín Dvořák. A work of vivid excitement where folk melodies are interwoven with glorious melodies, Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony is acknowledged as one of the composer’s indisputable masterpieces – a brilliant display of colour and energy.

A concert of poetry and joy.

An evening with the CSO…
... more than words can say.
