Teresa La Rocca - soprano

Teresa completed a drama and music degree at Adelaide University. In 1995 Teresa was a finalist in the singer’s heat of the ABC’s Young Performers Award, winner of the State Opera Aria and a finalist in the Robert Stolz Scholarship.

Her roles for State Opera of South Australia have included, Norina in Don Pasquale, Parasha in Stravinsky’s Mavra, Yum Yum in The Mikado, Despina in Cosi Fan Tutte and the

soprano role in the highly acclaimed Fire Requiem, Flamma Flamma for the Adelaide Festival. For the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Teresa has performed in their Symphony Under the Stars, A Viennese Concert, Handel’s Messiah and the soprano solo in Vaughan Williams’ Symphony Antarctica.

In 1998, Teresa won both the prestigious Herald Sun Aria and the Metropolitan Opera Award. 2001 saw Teresa perform several concerts with the Surabaya Symphony Orchestra in Indonesia, including Handel’s Messiah.

She made her debut with Opera Australia singing Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and performed the role of Musetta for Oz Opera’s touring production of La Bohème.

In 2003, Teresa appeared as soloist with the Sydney Symphony in their Amore series of concerts, starred in Viva Vivaldi for Vision Events in Perth and returned to OzOpera as Musetta in La Bohème. 2004 saw Teresa sing Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro and the Milliner in Der Rosenkavalier for Opera Australia. She also appeared as soloist with the Darwin Symphony Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and performed major roles in Co*Opera’s productions of Pagliacci and The Impresario. In 2005, Teresa sang Micaela in OzOpera’s production of Carmen, performed as soprano soloist in Symphony in the Domain for SSO, performed the title role in Bel Canto’s Lucia di Lammermoor to great acclaim and appeared with Sydney Philharmonia in Fauré’s Requiem and Verdi’s Requiem with Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.

In 2006, Teresa made her debut with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, appeared with the Adelaide, Darwin and Willoughby Symphony Orchestras, Sydney Philharmonia and covered major roles for Opera Australia in Rigoletto and La Clemenza di Tito. She returned to OA in 2007 for performances in Il trittico.
