7:30pm Llewellyn Hall,
ANU School of Music
Conductor: Nicholas Milton
Piano: Edward Neeman

Sibelius: Finlandia
Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor Op 16
Shostakovich: Symphony N 10 in E minor Op 93

Nicholas Milton, our inimitable Chief Conductor and Artistic Director, has chosen a spectacular season finale of amazing potency and gorgeous lyricism. This is a concert not to be missed under any circumstances. The evening opens with the beloved Finlandia by Sibelius before the CSO welcomes New York-based Canberra pianist, Edward Neeman to perform Grieg’s brilliant, virtuosic Piano Concerto. This work is a fitting tribute to Percy Grainger in his commemorative year - the Australian composer and pianist was Grieg’s favourite interpreter of this magnificent composition. After the interval, Shostakovich’s glorious Tenth Symphony is a powerful conclusion to a thrilling concert and phenomenal 2011 Llewellyn Series.
